Game-Changing CB Drills for Wise Pumas: 'Mirror and Match'
To improve their reaction time and mirror-cover skills, Wise Pumas' cornerbacks can benefit from the 'Mirror and Match' drill. This drill requires two players: one as the receiver and the other as the cornerback. The receiver starts at the line of scrimmage, while the cornerback lines up 5 yards off the ball. On the snap, the receiver runs a 5-yard out route. The cornerback must 'mirror' the receiver's movements, staying in phase with their feet and hips. The coach then calls 'match,' and the cornerback must quickly close the gap to the receiver, staying in position to contest the catch. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving the cornerback's ability to stay with receivers on out routes and quickly close gaps to contest passes.
