Elevate Your QB Game: Good Counsel Falcons' Pre-Season Pocket Passer Drill

๐Ÿ“ Good Counsel FalconsยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Good Counsel Falcons prepare for another WCAC championship run, quarterback coach, Mike Smith, emphasizes the importance of developing a strong pocket passer. To achieve this, Smith's team will be running a pre-season drill focused on footwork, accuracy, and decision-making. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Drop back 5 yards, plant non-throwing foot, and deliver a 10-yard out pass to a stationary receiver; 2) Rotate 90 degrees, plant non-throwing foot, and deliver a 10-yard slant pass to a moving receiver; 3) Drop back 5 yards, plant non-throwing foot, and deliver a 10-yard deep post pass to a receiver running a 5-yard route. Coaching cues include: 'Plant and explode,' 'Step into the throw,' and 'Follow through.' This drill translates to game performance by improving QB's ability to read defenses, navigate the pocket, and deliver accurate passes under pressure.
