Speed and Agility for Stags: The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Cheverus StagsยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Cheverus Stags coaches are putting their S players through a grueling 5-yard shuttle drill to improve speed and agility. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest period between sets. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint to the 10-yard line, change direction, and sprint back to the 5-yard line. Coaches are looking for explosive acceleration, sharp cuts, and quick changes of direction. To execute effectively, players should focus on 'quick feet' and 'low center of gravity.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the rapid changes of direction that S players face on the field, particularly in pass coverage and tackling situations. By mastering the 5-yard shuttle, Stags S players will be better equipped to stay with receivers and make tackles in space.
