Elevate Your Tight End Game with the Windham Eagles' 'Route Box' Drill
Tight ends at top programs like Windham Eagles need to be versatile and precise in their route running. To improve their skills, we're introducing the 'Route Box' drill. This drill focuses on footwork, hand placement, and spatial awareness. Set up a 10x10 foot box with cones and divide it into four quadrants. The TE will start in the center of the box and perform a series of routes (out, in, dig, and hook) in each quadrant. Coaches will call out the route and the TE must execute it within the designated area. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps per quadrant. Coaching cues include 'square your feet,' 'keep your eyes on the target,' and 'stay inside the box.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly change direction and find open spaces on the field.
