FridayNightPulse: Windham Eagles Linebacker Drill
For Linebackers at top programs like the Windham Eagles, developing the ability to quickly change direction and accelerate is crucial. One drill to focus on is the 'Ladder Shuffle'. Set up a ladder with 5-6 rungs on the ground. Players will start in a 3-point stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart. On the whistle, they will shuffle through the ladder, focusing on keeping their feet low and their weight centered. The key coaching cue is to emphasize 'quick feet, not quick legs'. Players will perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing linebackers to quickly close gaps and pursue ballcarriers in space. It also improves their ability to react to quick cuts and changes of direction.
