Quarterback Footwork and Accuracy: The 'Step-Through' Drill for C-Programs
For quarterbacks at Class C programs like the Yarmouth Clippers, developing quick and accurate footwork is crucial for success. One effective drill to improve quarterback footwork and accuracy is the 'Step-Through' drill. To set up, divide the quarterbacks into pairs with one player as the passer and the other as the receiver. The passer starts 5 yards behind the receiver, who is facing them. On the coach's signal, the passer steps through the receiver's body, keeping their eyes downfield, and throws a 5-yard out route. The receiver runs a 5-yard out route, focusing on creating separation from the defender. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on the passer's ability to step through the receiver and deliver an accurate pass. This drill translates to game performance by improving the quarterback's ability to read the defense and deliver the ball quickly and accurately.
