Muskegon Big Reds' LB Coach Shares Summer Drill for Speed and Agility

๐Ÿ“ Muskegon Big RedsยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve speed and agility for LB players at the Div 2 level, the Muskegon Big Reds' coaching staff runs a shuttle run drill with a twist. Players line up in pairs, with one player as the 'runner' and the other as the 'chaser'. The runner starts at one end of the 10-yard shuttle, while the chaser starts at the other end. The runner sprints to the middle, then back to their own end, while the chaser chases them down. The chaser must tag the runner with a hand or foot before they can cross the finish line. Run 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest in between sets. Coaching cue: 'Stay low and explosive, like a jackrabbit!' This drill translates to game performance by improving the LB's ability to quickly close gaps and make tackles in space.
