Route Running for WRs: Traverse City Central's Summer Drill

๐Ÿ“ Traverse City Central TrojansยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Traverse City Central Trojans prepare for the upcoming season, their wide receivers are honing in on precise route running skills. One drill the team is focusing on is the '3-Cut Drill'. To set up, divide the receivers into pairs with one defender. The receiver starts at the line of scrimmage, then runs a 5-yard out route, followed by a 10-yard in route, and finally a 10-yard deep route. The defender must stay with the receiver through all three cuts. The drill is done for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues include 'stay low', 'keep your eyes on the quarterback', and 'change direction quickly'. This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to create separation and make sharp cuts in tight spaces.
