FridayNightPulse: 'Rapid Fire' Drill for Linebackers at Div 2 Programs

๐Ÿ“ Detroit King CrusadersยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Detroit King Crusaders, Linebacker Coach Mike Thompson has developed a drill to improve reaction time and tackling efficiency. The 'Rapid Fire' drill involves a series of 3-5 cones set up 5 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, then react to a coach's whistle, sprinting to the next cone and immediately tackling a blocking bag. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, faster hands!' and 'Tackle with your eyes!' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the quick changes of direction and speed that linebackers face in the backfield. By improving reaction time and tackling efficiency, players can make more plays and contribute to their team's success.
