Speed and Agility Drill for Division 2 Wide Receivers
This summer, Division 2 programs like Muskegon Big Reds can improve their wide receivers' speed and agility with the 'Ladder Shuttle' drill. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Start by setting up a ladder on the field, with the wide receiver standing at one end. The coach calls out 'shuttle' and the receiver must quickly move through the ladder, focusing on proper footwork and speed. The coach then calls out 'change direction' and the receiver must quickly change direction, running back through the ladder in the opposite direction. This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate on the field, making them a more elusive target for defenders. Coaches should emphasize proper footwork and explosive acceleration throughout the drill.
