King Crusaders' Kickoff Drill: Building Kicking Power for Div 2 Programs

๐Ÿ“ Detroit King CrusadersยทSaturday, July 18, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Detroit King Crusaders, our kicking coach has developed a drill to build power and accuracy for our kickers. The 'Power Step' drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive their non-kicking leg into the ground, generating power for the kick. As they kick, they focus on keeping their ankle locked and toes pointed downward. Coaching cues include 'Drive, don't lift' and 'Snap the toe.' This drill translates to game performance by increasing leg strength, improving technique, and enhancing overall kicking power. By incorporating the Power Step drill into their training, kickers can develop the skills necessary to succeed at the Div 2 level.
