Power Through Contact: A Drill for Detroit King RBs
As the Detroit King Crusaders prepare for another dominant season in Division 2, running backs need to develop the strength and agility to power through tackles. One effective drill to achieve this is the 'Tackle Box' workout. Divide the players into pairs, with one running back and one defensive back. Set up a series of small 'tackle boxes' (marked by cones or small hurdles) spaced 5 yards apart. The running back must run through each box, focusing on explosive acceleration and a low center of gravity. The defensive back must aim to tackle the running back in each box. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'low and hard' for the running back and 'wrap up' for the defensive back. This drill translates to game performance by teaching running backs to maintain speed and balance in tight spaces, while defensive backs develop their tackling technique in a game-like scenario.
