Unlocking Tight End Potential: The 'Box Out' Drill
At the heart of a successful tight end is a combination of physicality and finesse. For Division 2 programs like Muskegon Big Reds, developing this unique skillset requires targeted training. The 'Box Out' drill is a game-changer for TE's looking to improve their blocking prowess. Set up a 10-yard box with two cones at each corner and a defender at the center. Have the TE start in a 3-point stance, then explode into a block, focusing on 'boxing out' the defender with their inside shoulder. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'shoulder seal' and 'hands inside.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to occupy defenders and create space for their quarterback. By mastering the 'Box Out,' your TE's will be a force to be reckoned with on the gridiron.
