Summer Speed and Agility for 6A WRs: The 5-Yard Shuffle Drill
For wide receivers at 6A programs like Elk River Elks, speed and agility are crucial for outmaneuvering defenders on the field. To improve these skills, we recommend incorporating the 5-Yard Shuffle Drill into your training regimen. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Players start at the 5-yard line, shuffling 5 yards to the left, then quickly shuffling 5 yards to the right, and finally sprinting back to the starting point. Coaching cues include keeping the feet low and quick, and using the inside foot to push off. This drill translates to game performance by improving a WR's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate away from defenders, creating separation and scoring opportunities. Run this drill 2-3 times a week to see improvement in your team's speed and agility.
