Elk River's Jalen Wilson Becomes First Elks Defensive Back to Earn Power 4 Offer
Elk River senior safety Jalen Wilson recorded 10 interceptions in 2024, a single-season school record, and 14 passes defensed, both of which led the Minnesota 6A Metro West Conference. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Wilson's ball-hawking skills and aggressive play earned him a coveted Power 4 offer from the University of Minnesota. Wilson becomes the first defensive back in Elk River program history to receive a Power 4 scholarship offer. The Elks' secondary will look to Wilson to anchor the unit in 2026, and he will be counted on to make plays in the backfield. Wilson's speed, agility, and instincts will be put to the test as he faces off against some of the state's top receivers. Scouts will be watching to see how Wilson adapts to more complex coverage schemes and if he can maintain his high level of production in a more challenging defensive system. His ability to read the quarterback and make plays on the ball will be key in his development as a Power 5 defensive back.
