Raiders' CBs: Master the 'Backpedal-to-Close' Drill
This summer, Cretin-Derham Hall's top cornerbacks will focus on the 'Backpedal-to-Close' drill to improve their technique and reaction time. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Backpedal 5 yards, plant, and recover to the start position; 2) Backpedal 5 yards, plant, and close to a cone 2 yards from the start position; 3) Backpedal 5 yards, plant, and close to a cone 1 yard from the start position. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes on the cone,' 'Drive through your back foot,' and 'Close with your inside shoulder.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing CBs to practice reacting to receivers' speed and agility, while maintaining proper technique and footwork. By mastering the 'Backpedal-to-Close' drill, Raiders' cornerbacks will be better equipped to handle the fast-paced, physical 5A competition.
