Speed Separation Drill for 6A WRs
This summer, 6A WRs like the Elk River Elks can improve their separation skills with a drill that simulates game-like situations. The 'Speed Separation Drill' involves setting up three cones in a triangle formation, with the WR starting at the bottom cone. The coach or trainer will provide a 5-yard head start, then sprint towards the WR, using a 'high-low' technique (keeping the eyes up and the head down). The WR must use their speed and footwork to separate from the defender and reach the top cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Coaches should emphasize 'keep your eyes on the defender, not the cone' and 'stay low and explosive.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to create separation and get open down the field.
