Elevate Your RB Game: The Eden Prairie Edge Drill
This summer, 6A programs like Eden Prairie Eagles are perfecting their running back skills with the Edge Drill. Designed to improve lateral quickness and ball security, this drill is a game-changer for RBs. To set up the Edge Drill, divide your players into pairs with one ball carrier and one defender. The defender will attempt to strip the ball, while the ball carrier must protect it and create space. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps with a 30-second rest in between. Coaching cues include: 'Protect the ball, protect the edge' and 'Keep your eyes up, stay one step ahead.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to maintain possession and make decisive cuts, setting them up for success in the backfield. By incorporating the Edge Drill into your summer training, RBs will be ready to take on the competition come fall.
