Elk River Elks OLs Get Ready for 6A Action with the 'Anchor' Drill
To prepare their linemen for the physical demands of 6A football, Elk River Elks coaches are incorporating the 'Anchor' drill into their summer training regimen. This drill targets the strength and stability needed to anchor the line of scrimmage. OLs will perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. To execute the drill, players will start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive their feet into the ground and extend their arms to a 45-degree angle, holding for 2 seconds. Coaches will cue players to 'dig their heels' and 'lock out their arms.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a lineman's ability to absorb and redirect force, allowing them to better protect their quarterback and create holes for the running back.
