Elevate Your Coverage: A CB Drill for 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Eden Prairie EaglesยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For cornerbacks at 6A powerhouses like Eden Prairie Eagles, dominating in press coverage is key. To improve their ability to stay on top of receivers, we're introducing the 'Shadow Shift' drill. This exercise targets footwork, agility, and reaction time. Set up four cones in a square formation, with two cones 5 yards apart and the other two cones 10 yards apart. Players start at the 10-yard cones and sprint to the 5-yard cones, then immediately pivot and shift their feet to stay in front of an imaginary receiver. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaches should emphasize quick feet, explosive acceleration, and staying low. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to maintain a tight, aggressive stance and react quickly to receiver movements, giving them a competitive edge in press coverage.
