Explosive Power for OL: The Box Drill

๐Ÿ“ Christian Brothers College CadetsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This week, we're taking a closer look at a powerful drill that can help OL players like those on the Christian Brothers College Cadets, as well as teams like St. Edward Eagles, St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders, De La Salle Spartans, and Bishop Gorman Gaels, improve their explosiveness and dominate on the line. The Box Drill involves setting up four cones in a square shape, with the player starting at the center cone. On the whistle, the player must explosively jump out to one of the corner cones, then immediately change direction and jump back to the center cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'explode out of the box' and 'quick change of direction.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the player's ability to quickly react to blocks and create explosive power off the line.
