Speed Development for S Players: The 3-Cone Shuttle Drill
The 3-Cone Shuttle drill is a high-intensity exercise that targets the speed, agility, and quickness of S players. This drill is essential for teams like the Lee's Summit West Titans, Liberty Eagles, Rockwood Summit Falcons, Park Hill South Panthers, St. Joseph Central Indians, and Raytown South Cardinals. To implement this drill, set up three cones in a triangular formation, 5 yards apart. Have S players start at the first cone, then shuttle back and forth between the next two cones. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Keep your head up and eyes forward,' 'Drive through the cone,' and 'Accelerate out of the turn.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to change direction quickly and maintain top-end speed. It also enhances their reaction time and decision-making on the field.
