FridayNightPulse: 5 LB Drills to Dominate the Field
This summer, linebackers at top programs like Rockhurst Hawklets, Blue Springs Wildcats, Parkway Central Patriots, St. Joseph's Indians, and Lee's Summit Tigers are putting in the work to dominate on the field. One key drill to add to your training routine is the 'Pillar Shuffle.' This drill improves agility, reaction time, and footwork. To set up, place four cones in a square formation, 3 yards apart. Players start at one corner and perform a 5-yard shuttle run to the adjacent cone. As they reach the cone, they shuffle 90 degrees to the next cone, then repeat. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing linebackers to rapidly change direction and close gaps, making them more effective in pursuit and coverage.
