Enhance Your Block Party: A Drilling Guide for OL Players
This summer, Rockhurst Hawklets, Park Hill Patriots, Lee's Summit Tigers, Blue Springs Wildcats, and St. Thomas Aquinas Saints are gearing up for a dominant season on the line. One key drill to focus on is the 'Box Drill' for OL players. Set up a 5-yard by 5-yard box with cones or markers. Have OL players start in a three-point stance, then explosively drive forward, aiming to hit the box's center. Focus on proper footwork, keeping hands inside, and leading with the shoulder. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coach your players to 'hit the box like a freight train,' emphasizing power and control. This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to drive block and seal the edge, giving their QBs more time to read and execute plays.
