FridayNightPulse Training Tip: 'Shadow' Drill for CBs
This summer, CBs at top programs like Hazelwood Central Hawks, Park Hill South Panthers, Lee's Summit North Broncos, Rockwood Summit Falcons, Liberty North Eagles, and Blue Springs Wildcats can improve their reaction time and coverage skills with the 'Shadow' drill. Set up a 10-yard box with a quarterback at one end and a receiver at the other. Have the CB start at the line of scrimmage. On the quarterback's snap, the CB must 'shadow' the receiver, staying one step behind and mirroring their movements. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cue: 'Stay on their hip, not their shoulder.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching CBs to stay patient and react quickly to receiver's moves, making it harder for them to get open.
