FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Speed and Agility Drill
Tight ends need to be able to quickly release from the line of scrimmage and get downfield to block or catch passes. The speed and agility drill below will help improve their explosiveness and reaction time. At Lee's Summit West, Liberty, Park Hill, Rock Bridge, Blue Springs South, and St. Joseph Central, coaches will implement the following drill: Perform 3 sets of 10 reps of the 'Ladder Shuttle.' Set up 5 cones in a zig-zag pattern, with a ladder at the end. Players start at one end, run through the cones, and then shuttle to the ladder. From the ladder, they jump out and back, then repeat the process. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'explosive acceleration.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a tight end's ability to quickly get downfield and make blocks or catches.
