FridayNightPulse: 6 DE Drills to Dominate in the Fall
Defensive Ends looking to take their game to the next level this fall can benefit from incorporating the 'Rush and Recover' drill into their pre-season training. This drill is designed to improve a DE's ability to quickly change direction and explosively accelerate off the line of scrimmage. At six top programs, including Lee's Summit West Titans, coaches are using the following protocol: 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. On the whistle, the DE rushes 5 yards, then immediately pivots and recovers to a defensive stance. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing DEs to quickly close gaps and make plays in the backfield. It also improves their ability to recover from a false start or other mistakes, giving them an edge on the field.
