FridayNightPulse: LB Drill for Speed and Agility
This summer, linebackers at top programs like De Smet Spartans, Blue Springs Wildcats, Park Hill Trojans, St. Louis Vashon Falcons, and St. Joseph Benton Cardinals are focusing on a drill that combines speed and agility training with tackling technique. The 'Ladder Shuttle Tackle' drill consists of three sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start at one end of a 10-yard ladder, then shuttle through the ladder at full speed, planting their outside foot and immediately transitioning to a tackling stance. They then explode off the line, tackling a pad or bag. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'explosive extension.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a linebacker's ability to quickly close gaps and make tackles in space. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, LBs can gain a competitive edge.
