DeShawn Thompson Commits to SMU
West Point Green Wave running back DeShawn Thompson has committed to SMU for the Class of 2027. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound back chose the Mustangs over offers from several other Power Five programs. Thompson's commitment to SMU is a result of the team's pro-style offense, which aligns with his skillset and playing style. He also cited the depth chart opportunity at running back, where he will compete for a starting spot alongside returning starter, Tyler Williams. Additionally, Thompson praised SMU's academic program, which is known for its strong business and engineering departments. Thompson decommitted from Arkansas in April after visiting the campus and re-evaluating his options. He has been a key contributor to the Green Wave's offense, rushing for over 1,000 yards as a sophomore. Thompson is expected to arrive on campus in the summer of 2027 to begin his prep work before the start of fall practice.
