Maximizing OL Strength with the 'Anchor and Pull' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Olive Branch ConquistadorsยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 6A programs like Olive Branch Conquistadors, building a dominant offensive line requires a combination of strength, technique, and coordination. The 'Anchor and Pull' drill is a high-intensity exercise that targets these key areas. To set up the drill, divide OL players into pairs with one player as the 'anchor' and the other as the 'puller'. The anchor player will lock out their arms and maintain a stable position, while the puller attempts to move them 5 yards downfield. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest period between sets. Coaching cues include 'stay low and balanced' and 'drive through your heels.' This drill translates to game performance by improving an OL's ability to anchor against defensive pressure and generate power in the run game.
