Unlocking Tight End Potential: The Oak Grove Warriors' 7-Yard Hook Drill

๐Ÿ“ Oak Grove WarriorsยทWednesday, July 8, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Oak Grove Warriors' summer camp, tight end coach, Mark Davis, is focused on developing the skills of his 6A team's TEs. One key drill that's been making waves is the 7-Yard Hook Drill. This exercise targets the TE's ability to quickly release from the line of scrimmage and create separation from defenders. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, 7 yards off the line, and must hook their inside foot and release quickly, sprinting 5 yards downfield. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'explosive release.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to get open quickly and create mismatches. It's a must-try for any 6A program looking to take their TEs to the next level.
