FridayNightPulse: WR Drill for 5A Programs - 'Route Runner'

At West Point Green Wave, we're focusing on developing elite route runners this pre-season. The 'Route Runner' drill targets quick cuts, agility, and separation from defenders. Set up a 10-yard by 10-yard grid with cones. Divide your WRs into pairs, with one player as the runner and the other as the defender. The runner starts at the 5-yard line, with the defender at the 10-yard line. On the coach's signal, the runner must sprint to the 7-yard line, then quickly cut to the 3-yard line, and finally accelerate to the end zone. The defender must stay within 3 yards of the runner. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Quick feet, sharp cuts!' and 'Separate from the defender!' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to create space and get open downfield.
