Aggressive Backpedal Drill for 6A Cornerbacks
The Oak Grove Warriors' secondary is looking to make a statement this season, and a key component of their defensive strategy is the aggressive backpedal drill. This drill is designed to improve cornerbacks' ability to quickly change direction and maintain coverage while keeping their eyes on the quarterback. To set up the drill, have the cornerback start at the 10-yard line with a defender 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. On the coach's signal, the quarterback will drop back to pass, and the cornerback must backpedal to the 20-yard line while keeping their eyes on the quarterback. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the prize' and 'stay on the quarterback.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to quickly react to the quarterback's movement and maintain coverage, even when the offense is trying to exploit them with deep passes.
