FridayNightPulse: WR Drill for 6A Programs
Starkville Yellow Jackets WRs, get ready to take your route-running to the next level with this summer training drill. The 'Route Box' drill targets footwork, agility, and decision-making. Set up 5x5 foot squares on the field, spaced 5 yards apart. Divide your WRs into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. The receiver starts in the first square, while the defender starts 5 yards away. On the whistle, the receiver must sprint to the next square, then change direction to the adjacent square, mimicking a 5-yard out route. The defender must mirror the receiver's movements. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Stay low,' 'Keep your eyes on the defender,' and 'Change direction quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly read the defense and make sharp cuts on the field.
