FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Starkville Yellow Jackets WR Drill

๐Ÿ“ Starkville Yellow JacketsยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, 6A programs like the Starkville Yellow Jackets can give their wide receivers a competitive edge with the 'Route Runner' drill. The drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players start at the line of scrimmage, then sprint 10 yards to the first cone, where they perform a 5-yard cut to the second cone. They then accelerate to the third cone, where they perform a 10-yard out route. Coaches should focus on proper footwork, body positioning, and speed through the cut. This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of breaks, making them a more elusive target for defenders. By incorporating the 'Route Runner' drill into their summer training, WRs can develop the skills needed to dominate on the field this fall.
