FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Bulldozing Through Defenders with the RB 'Power Through' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Butte BulldogsยทMonday, July 20, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At AA programs like the Butte Bulldogs, running backs need to be able to power through defenders to gain extra yards. To improve this skill, we're introducing the 'Power Through' drill. This drill consists of 3 sets of 8 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start in a three-point stance, then explosively drive through a pad or sled, focusing on keeping their shoulders square and their legs driving through the ground. Coaches should cue players to 'keep their feet wide' and 'drive through the pad.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a RB's ability to break tackles and gain extra yards after contact. It also helps build strength and power in the legs, essential for a successful AA program.
