FridayNightPulse: Wolfpack DEs Unleash Beast Mode with the 'Trench Takedown' Drill
For Kalispell Glacier's defensive ends, the 'Trench Takedown' drill is a game-changer. This high-intensity workout targets explosive power, speed, and agility. To set up the drill, divide the DEs into pairs with one player as the 'tackler' and the other as the 'ball carrier.' The tackler starts 10 yards away, while the ball carrier begins at the line of scrimmage. On the whistle, the tackler sprints towards the ball carrier, focusing on a low, inside rush. The ball carrier must quickly drop their weight, change direction, and burst through a mini hole (5x5 feet) to the opposite side of the drill area. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 2 minutes between sets. Coaching cues: 'Low and inside,' 'Change direction, change the game,' and 'Explosive, not slow.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the quick decisions and rapid changes of direction that defensive ends face when rushing the quarterback.
