FridayNightPulse: 'Shuttle and Change' Drill for Cornerbacks
Cornerbacks at top AA programs like the Butte Bulldogs need to be in top shape to keep up with the speed and agility of receivers. One drill that can help improve their performance is the 'Shuttle and Change' drill. This drill involves setting up two cones 5 yards apart, with a third cone 10 yards away. Players start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, change direction, and sprint back to the first cone. They then immediately sprint to the third cone and back to the starting point. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include keeping the head up and eyes on the target, and exploding out of the change of direction. This drill translates to game performance by improving a cornerback's ability to quickly change direction and cover receivers in man-to-man coverage.
