Route Running Mastery for AA WRs: The 'Ghost' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Great Falls BisonยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At AA programs like the Great Falls Bison, WRs need to develop lightning-quick route running skills to outmaneuver defenders. The 'Ghost' drill is a game-changer for achieving this. Set up four cones in a square formation, with each cone 5 yards apart. Have the WR start at the top cone, then sprint to the bottom cone, making a sharp cut to the left and right, mimicking a 'ghost' movement. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Stay low and fast,' 'Make the defender chase you,' and 'Keep your eyes on the quarterback.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the WR's ability to create separation and evade tackles. It also enhances their reaction time and agility, making them a nightmare to defend.
