FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Bulldozing TEs with the 'Box Out' Drill
At AA programs like the Butte Bulldogs, tight end development is crucial for dominating in the red zone. To improve blocking prowess, we're introducing the 'Box Out' drill. This exercise targets footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. Divide the TE group into pairs, with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. Set up a box (4x4 feet) with cones. The blocker's goal is to 'box out' the defender by placing their inside foot outside the box and their outside foot inside, while keeping their body low and knees bent. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaches, cue your TEs to 'dig in' and 'own the box.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to effectively seal defenders and create space for their quarterback.
