Shelby Golden Lions WRs: Master the 'Quick Release' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Shelby Golden LionsยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve separation and create space off the line, WRs at 3A programs like Shelby Golden Lions can benefit from the 'Quick Release' drill. Set up three cones in a triangle formation, with the WR starting at the point. On the coach's signal, the WR sprints to the first cone, then quickly releases to the second cone, and finally to the third. The goal is to release the ball as soon as possible after reaching the second cone. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, focusing on explosive acceleration and a quick, precise release. Coaching cues include 'Release! Release!' and 'Fast, fast, fast!' This drill translates to game performance by teaching WRs to quickly create separation and get open downfield.
