Summer Sprints for Weddington Warriors: WR Speed and Agility Drill

๐Ÿ“ Weddington WarriorsยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Weddington Warriors prepare for the upcoming 3A season, wide receivers coach, Mike Johnson, emphasizes the importance of speed and agility training. One key drill to improve WR performance is the 'Ladder Carioca Drill'. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 feet between each rung. Players start at one end, then perform a carioca drill (side-to-side shuffles) through the ladder, focusing on quick footwork and change of direction. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coach Johnson stresses the importance of keeping the feet low and the knees bent, 'like a sprinter on the track'. This drill translates to game performance by enhancing a WR's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate off the line of scrimmage, making them a more elusive target for defenders.
