DeShawn Thompson Commits to Texas Tech Red Raiders
Mallard Creek Class of 2027 cornerback DeShawn Thompson has committed to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Thompson, a 4A standout, chose the Red Raiders over other Power 5 suitors. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Thompson is expected to fit seamlessly into Texas Tech's aggressive defensive scheme, which features a 3-4 alignment. With a projected depth chart spot at nickelback, Thompson will have the opportunity to contribute immediately. Texas Tech's strong academic program, which offers a range of engineering and business majors, also played a key factor in Thompson's decision. This marks the first commitment for the Red Raiders in the Class of 2027. Thompson was previously committed to the University of North Carolina but decommitted in April after a coaching change. He attended Texas Tech's summer camp in June, where he impressed coaches with his speed and agility.
