FridayNightPulse Training Tip: TE Drills for 4A Success
This week, we're focusing on a crucial drill for tight ends at 4A programs like Mallard Creek Mavericks. The 'Route Box' drill trains TEs to quickly release off the line, create separation, and secure the catch in tight spaces. To set up: Divide players into pairs, with one player as the TE and the other as the DB. Set up a 5-yard box with cones. The TE must release off the line, run a 5-yard out route, and secure the catch. The DB must stay in phase and contest the catch. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Release off the line, not into the DB.' 'Secure the catch, don't drop it.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to quickly adjust to coverage and make plays in traffic. It also helps DBs develop their ability to stay in phase and contest catches.
