Route Running Fundamentals for 4A WRs: The 'Stack and Go' Drill
For wide receivers at 4A programs like the Chambers Cougars, mastering route running is crucial for success on the field. To improve their skills, we recommend the 'Stack and Go' drill. This drill focuses on quick footwork and decisive cuts. Divide the receivers into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the coach. The receiver starts in a stacked position, with their feet shoulder-width apart and their weight evenly distributed between both feet. The coach calls out a route, and the receiver must quickly stack their feet and explode into the route. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'stack and go,' 'quick feet,' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing receivers to develop the quickness and agility needed to beat defenders on the field.
