Unlocking Tight End Potential: Myers Park Mustangs' Summer Drill
At 4A powerhouses like Myers Park Mustangs, tight ends are crucial to a team's success. To take their game to the next level, we've developed a drill that targets key areas of improvement. The 'Route Box Drill' is designed to enhance TE's route-running skills, footwork, and hand-eye coordination. Here's how to run it: Set up four cones in a 5-yard square, with each cone representing a different route (in, out, post, and corner). Have the TE start at the center cone and perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick changes of direction and explosive acceleration. Coaching cues include 'square your feet to the cone,' 'keep your eyes on the quarterback,' and 'attack the seam.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing TEs to develop the agility and speed needed to create separation from defenders and make clutch catches.
