Game-Changing CB Drill for 4A Programs: 'Shadow and Mirror'

๐Ÿ“ Myers Park MustangsยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Myers Park Mustangs' secondary is looking to make a statement in the 4A division this season. To get their cornerbacks (CBs) ready, we're sharing a game-changing drill that focuses on quick reactions and mirror coverage. The 'Shadow and Mirror' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between sets. Here's how to run it: Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with a quarterback or coach at each cone. The CB starts at the line of scrimmage, with the quarterback throwing a quick out route to the cone on their left. The CB must 'shadow' the receiver, staying 2-3 yards off their hip, and then 'mirror' their movements to stay in phase. This drill translates to game performance by improving the CB's ability to stay in coverage and react to quick releases.
