FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Myers Park Mustangs' RB Drill for Explosive Speed

๐Ÿ“ Myers Park MustangsยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Myers Park Mustangs, our running backs are working on a speed and agility drill to improve their explosiveness on the field. The 'Ladder Zig-Zag' drill targets quick changes of direction and acceleration. Set up a ladder on the field and have the RBs perform the following sequence: 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Starting at the top of the ladder, have them zig-zag through the rungs, focusing on keeping their inside foot close to the ladder. As they reach the bottom, have them immediately change direction and zig-zag back up. Coaching cue: 'Keep your inside foot close, outside foot wide, and explode out of each turn.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly change direction and accelerate past defenders, making them more effective in the open field.
