Mandan Braves OL Drill: Building Power and Agility
This summer, Mandan Braves OL coach John Smith is focusing on building power and agility in his linemen. One key drill is the 'Medicine Ball Slam' exercise. Players will start in a squat position, holding a medicine ball at chest level. On the coach's signal, they explosively slam the ball to the ground, immediately following up with a box jump to a depth of 12-18 inches. This drill is performed for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Explode, Slam, Jump' and 'Keep your back straight, drive through your heels.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL's ability to generate power and explosiveness in their blocks, while also increasing agility and reaction time. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, the Mandan Braves OL unit is poised for a strong season.
