Quarterback Quick Release Drill for AA Programs
The quarterback quick release drill is a valuable training tool for AA programs like the Mandan Braves. This drill focuses on developing the quarterback's ability to rapidly release the ball, reducing the risk of interceptions and increasing accuracy. To set up the drill, divide the quarterbacks into pairs with one quarterback as the thrower and the other as the catcher. The thrower will start in a shotgun formation 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. On the snap, the thrower must quickly drop back and release the ball to the catcher, who will be running a 5-yard out route. The thrower will complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick footwork and a smooth release. Coaching cues include 'drop and fire' and 'quick release, don't hold'. This drill translates to game performance by allowing the quarterback to quickly read the defense and make accurate throws under pressure.
